Mending Life LLC does not offer licensed counseling and therapy. We are trained and equipped for coaching and pastoral care, and within that framework don’t diagnose or treat mental health conditions. We don’t engage in areas outside of our competency level, but use a referral network to ensure those who need licensed clinical care are aware of their options.

Mending is about putting things together or rearranging them. No one escapes trouble in life. Whether dealing with grief, learning to listen well, adapting to change, desiring to stop or start a new behavior, taming harmful responses, or reframing traumatic experiences, we all need help. At Mending Life, we focus on a brief therapy model that addresses three simple questions leading to discovery:

  1. Where are you in life now and how did you get here?
  2. What is it you don’t like about it?
  3. Where would you like to be next week, next month, or in five years?

What You Need to Bring: Willingness
Willingness accepts responsibility. It assesses how much pain it can endure. It makes decisions based on the long term. It is resistant to voices shouting, “You can’t!” It is resilient (bounces back) and gets back on track after facing trouble. It looks at trials from a grit-perspective, knowing that difficulty presents opportunity for growth. It can be vulnerable when needed. It is open to new ideas. It gives in and gives back rather than gives up. It is kind to itself and can learn to be kind to others.

How Mending Life Started

Pain brings change. The Bible sometimes calls pain “trials”. Going through trials produce endurance, and endurance results in completeness (James 1:3-4). Many things need to line up for pain to result in completeness… thinking, grit, attitude, sourcing help, support, humility, and so on. Otherwise pain can be the start to a depressive decline, a giving up on self, others and life, and an expectation that things just won’t work out… a loss of hope.

In my mid-50s, I lost a son, Levy, to drug addiction and suicide. The grief, blame, self-loathing, and despair shook me deeply as I wondered through tears what I should have done differently. Within 6 months, I lost a job in retail marketing of 25 years. Within a year, I lost a second job as a marketing manager. This is where endurance comes in. Because I had excellent support and knew the truth of God’s love, I didn’t quit, but refocused and found a new course. Years later, after certification as a Master Mental Health Coach, and completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, Mending Life is a reality. It is designed to bring hope and change to lives and relationships that produce endurance and the ability to be resilient, grow in faith, confidence, humility, and character.

Levy Coons

Lost at 29 years. Not a day forgotten. Missed for the rest of this life.
